After the storm: Dockershim deprecation demystified
The upcoming Kubernetes 1.24 removes Dockershim, which does not mean that the project is dropping support for Docker, Docker images, and all other container tooling. It means that Kubernetes is only supporting Container Runtime Interface (CRI), the standard that has existed for almost 6 years. Dockershim was built as a temporary solution, and focusing on CRI will enable a series of opportunities for the Kubernetes project: improved security, reduced maintainer burden, and the ability to focus on new features. Join this panel bringing together experts from Google, Docker, VMware and RedHat to hear about the past and future of container runtimes on the Kubernetes project.
